Pass the Handle Week: Why Introducing Someone to Lake Life Matters

June 18, 2026

There’s something special about watching someone experience life on the water for the first time.

Maybe it’s the smile after their first tube ride. Maybe it’s the excitement of standing up on a wakesurf board for the first time. Or maybe it’s simply seeing someone realize that a day on the lake can be a whole lot more fun than they ever imagined.

That’s the idea behind Pass the Handle Week.

Every year, the watersports community comes together with one mission: introduce someone new to the fun, excitement, and memories that come from spending time behind a boat.

At 918 Boats, that’s something we can get behind.

As Oklahoma’s wakeboard and wakesurf headquarters, we know that lake life isn’t just a hobby. It’s time with family, weekends with friends, and memories that last long after summer ends. Located just minutes from downtown Tulsa on Skiatook Lake, we’re passionate about helping more people discover everything that life on the water has to offer.

How Pass the Handle Started

Pass the Handle first launched in 2014 as a project created by legendary wakeboarders Shaun Murray and Zane Schwenk.

The concept was simple.

Find someone who has never experienced a tow sport behind a boat and invite them along. Help them try something new, teach them the basics, and let them experience the same excitement that has made wake sports and boating such a big part of your life.

Over the years, Pass the Handle has continued to grow, with companies, professional athletes, and boating enthusiasts across the country participating and sharing their love of life on the water.

The mission remains the same today: make boating accessible and fun for someone new.

More Than a Ride Behind the Boat

Pass the Handle Week isn’t about creating professional wakeboarders.

It’s about creating experiences.

A first tube ride can turn into a family tradition. A first wakesurf session can become a new favorite hobby. A simple afternoon on the lake can create memories that people talk about for years.

Some of the best lake memories happen during firsts.

The first time someone jumps into the water on a hot Oklahoma day. The first time they hear the music playing while floating in the cove. The first time they stand up and realize they can actually ride behind the boat.

Those moments are why we love lake life.

They bring people together, encourage us to unplug, and remind us that some of the best days are the ones spent with family and friends on the water.

Join 918 Boats on July 18

While Pass the Handle is celebrated all week long, 918 Boats will be participating on July 18 on Skiatook Lake, and we encourage everyone to take part.

Invite a friend who’s never been on a wakeboard boat. Bring your neighbor’s kids out for a tube ride. Teach someone how to wakesurf. Introduce a family member to their first day on the lake.

You never know what one afternoon on the water can mean to someone.

Every wakeboarder, wakesurfer, and lake lover has a first-day story.

This July, you have the opportunity to help create someone else’s.

Join us on July 18 as we celebrate Pass the Handle Week and share the excitement of lake life with someone new. To learn more about our on-water experience at Skiatook Lake, call 918.900.6032 or visit 918boats.com
